Differences Between PRP and PRF
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Composition: PRP is a concentration of platelets in plasma, which includes a variety of growth factors and cytokines.
Preparation: PRP prepared by centrifuging whole blood combined with an anticoagulant to separate the plasma and platelets from red blood cells.
Action: PRP delivers a quick burst of signalling factors
Application: Commonly used for a quick refreshing appearance.
Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)
Composition: PRF contains a higher concentration of fibrin along with platelets, leukocytes, and signalling factors, resulting in a more structured matrix.
Preparation: PRF is created through a slower centrifugation process that allows the formation of a fibrin matrix, which entraps platelets and signalling factors.
Action: PRF delivers an enmeshed fibrin matrix, which releases signalling factors more gradually over time.
Application: Commonly used to correct scars or deeper lines by supporting collagen production.
Benefits of PRP
Promotes superficial tissue regeneration.
Less inflammatory, quicker recovery, combating early superficial age-related changes.
Minimally invasive.
Benefits of PRF
Provides a natural scaffold at a deeper tissue level.
Releases signalling factors over an extended period, combating scar tissue and deeper, more advanced age-related changes, further supporting collagen production.
Minimally invasive.
Applications of PRP
Hair restoration/androgenic hair thinning
Larger scar revision areas
Acne scarring with resurfacing
Stretch marks
Skin texture and collagen stimulation over broader surfaces
Areas requiring multiple injection passes or larger treatment volumes
Applications of PRF
Under-eye rejuvenation
Thin or delicate skin areas
Fine lines and crepe-like skin
Facial volume support
Deeper facial folds
Localized scar tethering
Surgical scars requiring structural remodeling
Areas of fibrosis or poor circulation
Combination Approaches (Very Common)
PRP microneedling = broader collagen stimulation; plus
Injectable PRF = targeted support under eyes, scars, or folds
This allows rapid signalling from PRP and sustained remodeling from PRF. The two therapies are complementary rather than competitive.
